What does webshop bankruptcy mean?
In bankruptcy, the court seizes the assets of the company running the webshop. Bankruptcy can be filed by the owner of the company itself, creditors or the court. Bankruptcy is filed if the webshop can no longer pay its creditors.
What happens if the webshop is bankrupt?
The court appoints a receiver to take over the webshop. The receiver tries to ensure that the creditors are paid. Creditors such as the Tax Office, the UWV and energy and water companies have priority over other creditors. The receiver manages the assets and decides whether the shop can continue selling goods. Usually, this is not the case. The owner of the webshop is obliged to cooperate in the bankruptcy.
